What are the main purposes of the program?
The Drug Education Program at Courtenay Gardens Primary School is a whole school programme involving Prep through to Grade 6.
How is the program structured?
Each year level participate in units of study based on set themes throughout two terms each year. In each even year, students are involved in a ten week programme throughout terms 2 and 3. In each odd year students participate In Life Education Van activities during term 1 and the regular ten week Programme in term 3. The programme ensures sequence, progression and continuity throughout the school so that messages are consistent across the school curriculum. It also addresses the values, attitudes and behaviours of the students as well as the community and is linked to the school’s overall goal of “Harm Minimisation”.
What extra-curricular activities tie in with your program?
Based on parent and community interest, the school conducts Parent Drug Education Forums to share, discuss and reflect on drug-related community and school issues as they arise. The school has an Individual School Drug Education Strategy that is reviewed and evaluated every four years.
