NUMERACY PROGRAM

At Courtenay Gardens Primary School we firmly believe that every child can achieve success in Mathematics given sufficient time and assistance. As dedicated educators, we are committed to achieving this goal.

In our Prep to Four classrooms we follow the  Early Years Numeracy Strategy, which is a comprehensive and strategic approach to numeracy achievement in the early years of schooling.

The Early Years Numeracy Program is a resource for schools to use in planning and implementing a strategic and comprehensive approach to early mathematics teaching and learning in the first five years of schooling. The Program is based on the idea that students will be competent and confident in their early mathematical learning.
Our program across the school includes a process for the continuous monitoring and assessment of students progress, to understand the learning needs of our students, which allows the staff to provide a structured mathematics program, including a range of teaching approaches.

At Courtenay Gardens we cater for all learning needs and styles in Mathematics, including those children seen to be needing additional assistance. The Numeracy Improvement Program has been designed to improve the mathematical skills and understandings of students identified as performing under and above the expected grade levels. We work closely with parents and students to ensure that comprehensive Individual Learning Plans are maintained and that children’s Numeracy learning needs are met.

Our dedicated Staff are involved in continual Professional Development in the area of Numeracy learning.  Our parents have the opportunity to attend Parent Information sessions on assisting their children in the areas of Numeracy learning.
