5B 9 – 10:40am 5D 11:10-12:15 During Term 3 and 4, our Grade 5 students will be participating in a program called “Kids on Track†(KoT). KoT is an early intervention program designed and delivered by Windermere Child and Family Services. The program educates children to make better choices in everyday life, developing their skills in the areas of self-regulation, anger management and protective factors with the goal of improving decision making and social behaviours as they move into adolescence. KoT consists of eight, two hour sessions, run weekly within the school term. The sessions are conducted by Windermere’s Youth Project Officer with several possible guest presenters including Victoria Police’s Youth Resource Officers, Martial Arts Instructors and Victoria Legal Aide. Topics include: · Family, connection to broader community and developing a “Circle of Trust†· Future dreams, plans and aspirations · Mental health (focusing on anxiety and depression) · Alcohol and other drugs · Anger Management · Teamwork · Bullying, by-stander behaviour and peer pressure · Cyber Safety · Co-operation, teamwork and respect for others’ opinions · Consent Windermere Child and Family Services offer the program at no cost and as it forms part of our curriculum all students are expected to attend.
