Kinder Transition Sessions & Orientation Morning
The purpose of these sessions are to help children to become accustomed to the classroom and school environments. Teachers show the children around the school and talk to them about where different classrooms, the toilets, and where the various rooms are, including the Performing Arts Centre (PAC), the gym and library are.
Our staff have designed sessions to provide pre-schoolers with a glimpse of the school environment and they become acquainted with peers and students. Their confidence increases as they begin to make connections with the school they will attend.
We endeavours to create opportunities to develop each child so that they may reach their potential. By providing a caring, supportive learning environment students feel secure in the knowledge that they are valued.
Preparing your child for school
Parents often ask the question: ”What can we do to prepare our child for school?”
Here is a list of things that will help them to be ready for school:
- Knows their preferred name.
- Be able to write their name.
- Dress themself, including doing up zippers and buttons, able to put on shoes and socks.
- Go to the toilet and wash their hands by themselves.
- Knows their own school bag - preferably with a personalised bag tag.
- Can pack and unpack their bag, knowing where everything is.
- Knows their own clothes and other items, which are clearly labelled.
- Be able to open lunch box and drink bottle.
- Looks after belongings. Respects other people's belongings.
- Be able to tidy up after themsleves.
Take the time to talk to them about school, what it would be like, your positive experiences with school. Talk to your child about respect and responsibility that is expected at Courtenay Gardens Primary School.
